What the critics are saying about SYLVIA FALLING:
I’ve recently “discovered” an amazing singer, Shaz OYE from Dublin, she’s a singer in a million. What a voice! What a song, what a feeling for a song.
Larry Kirwan, Sirius Satellite Radio, USA

The album’s most sublime moment. With its melancholic piano line and soaring central notes, this is an achingly beautiful love song to women who are trapped within someone else’s idea of who they should be.
Brian Finnegan, GCN, The Choice Cut

OYE sidesteps the urge to rant and lets her glossy voice take over; on Sylvia Falling, a comment on fashion’s phoniness, it blends stunningly with piano
Sinead Gleeson, The Ticket, The Irish Times

Giants like Shirley Bassey and Nina Simone must’ve been on the turntable in OYE’s youth, because she has their same rare ability to plunge the cavernous depths, then resurface into heart-rending vibrato
Adrienne Murphy, Hotpress Magazine

shaz OYE cancels planned release of Abbeylara inspired song
As a result of the unintentional clash with the publication of the Barr Tribunal report; shaz OYE today announced the cancellation of her planned release 'Easy off the Trigger', scheduled to be the first single from her album 'Truth according to shaz OYE'. shaz OYE said, "The siege at Abbeylara and subsequent shooting of John Carthy, inspired 'Easy off the Trigger'. When I planned the single release I was unaware of the publication date of the Barr Tribunal report and never intended to coincide with it. As a writer I hope that my songs resonate with an audience, provoke thought and debate, whilst also entertaining them; I have no desire to rake over the raw emotions of the Carthy family or to capitalise on their pain in any way. My thoughts about the police shooting of John Carthy are already a matter of public record. As I wrote in the album's sleeve notes at the time of its release; Many questions remain unanswered about the events surrounding the fatal shooting of John Carthy at Abbeylara, Co Longford on 20th April 2000, but what is certain is that John Carthy is dead. Everything he ever had, everyone he ever loved and everything he was ever going to be were taken from him that day. That cannot be undone, nor can the desolation wrought upon families or the gradual unravelling of the social fabric of our society by the ever increasing number of violent deaths through gun related crimes. The Siege at Abbeylara inspired this song"
" My deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of John Carthy."

Bursting with intelligence, beauty and amazing emotional depth…a knee-buckling, hair-on-the-back-of-your-neck-raising, shiver-down-your-back inducing album that will have you hooked after just one listen. It’s that fucking good!
Adrienne Murphy, Hotpress, NINE/TEN

"Tough urban hymns with a history…probably the most intense collection of songs you'll hear this year."
Eamon Carr, Evening Herald

“The most extraordinary voice ever to come out of Ireland.”
Jackie Hayden, Hotpress

“Her voice is truly remarkable; a versatile and velvety croon that is full of rich textures and heart-melting soul...Songs steeped in intelligence and insight.”
Eamon Sweeney, Irish Independent - 4 Stars

"One of the best voices to emerge recently onto the Irish Scene."
